Clean off remaining residue with an alcohol pad. Use a black stick to remove all the original thermal material on the heatsink at all three mating surface locations shown below. Note: After installing new thermal material, if you must briefly re-separate the logic board from the heatsink, it is OK to retain the same, new material. Important: Avoid unnecessary contact with new thermal material, as dirt and body oils reduce the thermal material's conductivity. Failure to do so can cause the computer to overheat and be damaged. Warning: Whenever the logic board is separated from the heatsink, the thermal material must be replaced. I would not recommend this machine for gaming, video editing, or 3D modeling.Apple PowerBook G4 17 There is a different thermal configuration for each of the following: I wish they were an option for the newer iMacs.The bottom line : This mac still looks fantastic despite its age and for the price they are ideal for tasks like browsing the net, itunes, mail, iphoto, iwork, etc. The cost of purchasing a set of speakers better than the pro speakers will likely cost more than what you will pay for a used iMac G4 system. The pro speakers are absolutely amazing for their size. It has beauty, charm, and most modern features built-in. Our family mainly uses this iMac to browse the net, and to watch an occasional movie or TV show. Since it has a compact and unobtrusive design our G4 is in our kitchen and is connected to our home network via wifi. The installed hard drive is relatively small, but the addition of a portable external usb hard drive makes for a simple solution to storage issues. 
The iMac G4 that I own is a 1.25 ghz model and has 1.25 GB of DDR memory installed. The iMac G4 is capable of running the most current version of OS X (10.5.7) without issue.
A rare accomplishment for a desktop personal computer.Pros: OS X Leopard, Attractive all-in-one design, Build quality, PriceCons: Limited 3D graphics capability, Not capable of running bootcampI would recommend the iMac G4 to anyone that is thinking about switching to a mac but might not have the money for a new mac. The G4 iMac is a smartly designed all-in-one desktop that has managed to remain usable and attractive many years after it was released.
